It was the 1960s. Bob Benedict and two friends partnered to form BAM Electric Motor Rewind Ltd. For many years, the Edmonton region was served by their expertise and their skills in the precise and meticulous task of repairing electric motors.
In 1975, the company was turned over to Bob’s son Dave, and became BAM Electric (1975) Ltd. By this time, Alberta was two years into an oil boom, and there was a great demand for electrical expertise in the oilfields. The company worked mainly on the wiring of drilling rigs, service rigs, boilers, and air heaters. Among its first customers were the Lister company and Widney Well Servicing.
By the 1990’s, Dave saw an opportunity to specialize even further: often when boilers needed repair, the field supervisors would call in local electricians to perform the work. However, boiler repair requires specialized knowledge. Unless the repair was made by a technician with these necessary skills, safety was at risk and quality of the repair work was uncertain.
To emphasize the company’s specialization in boilers, it changed its name to BAM Boilers Ltd. in 2001. Today, oilfield companies demand that only qualified boiler technicians troubleshoot and repair their boilers.
